When he was interviewed about the film, Jim Carrey jokingly lied what the film was about and stated it was about an ex-navy seal turned cook who is trapped on a ship, which was the plot of Trappola in alto mare (1992) starring Steven Seagal. This is in keeping with Fletcher Reede (Carrey), a compulsive liar. Interestingly, "Under Siege" had Tommy Lee Jones playing the antagonist, and would go on work with Carrey in Batman Forever (1995). "Under Siege" also featured Troy Evans, who played Roger Podacter in the first Jim Carrey/Tom Shadyac film, Ace Ventura - L'acchiappanimali (1994).
