The star field look to Starboy's costume is straight out of the comics. This starfield look to his outfit made it challenging to animate as the character moved around, but producer Bruce Timm believed the effect could be done. The overseas studios didn't get the animation right the first time, but they caught on really quick. The creative team admitted it is easier to create the effect with digital tools and that it is something there are able to do now but were unable to do 20 years ago before switching to digital tools.
