Despite being a remake of Angels in the Outfield (1951), which focuses on the Pittsburgh Pirates in heavenly need, this film focuses on the California Angels, which did not exist when the original film was released; in fact, the only connection between this film and the 1951 film is that its premiere was hosted at the Pirates former home, Three Rivers Stadium, which was hosting the 1994 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
