The movie was widely derided by fans of the Godzilla franchise, most preferring to view it as a standalone giant monster flick instead of a Godzilla adaptation. In fact, several fans and critics have pointed out similarities between this movie and the Il risveglio del dinosauro (1953) (which partially inspired the original), and therefor some people like to regard it as an unofficial remake of that film.
