Guide dogs originated In response to the many German soldiers who were were blinded or visually impaired during WWI. schools in German began experimenting with guide dogs that were taught specific skills. Impressed, Dorothy Eustis penned an article for The Saturday Evening Post, published on November 5, 1927. Among the countless requests for guide dogs she received in response, it was a letter from Morris Frank, a 20-year-old blind man from Nashville, Tennessee, that moved her to take action, because of his intention to use the trained dog to spread awareness for the cause and eventually establish a school to help people through the training of guide dogs in the United States.
