To prepare for the role of Rupert Pumpkin, Robert DeNiro spent time with a real life superfan, Vinny Gonzales aka "Fat Vinny" who's a superfan of the rock band, KISS and is a huge Hollywood autograph seeker. Gonzales got to meet DeNiro while trying to get his autograph and both men hit it off great when they met that DeNiro visited Vinny's home and used Gonzales as his inspiration for Rupert Pumpkin. DeNiro even offered Gonzales a job as his personal driver, but was turned down at the time due to the fact that KISS was going on tour again.
