The noodle shop that Neo is having his noodles and that Trinity walks past him is actually The House of Nanking located at Kearny Street in San Francisco. Directly opposite it is a sign of a shop that reads 'Zoetrope'. A zoetrope was a device created in the 1830s that creates the illusion of moving image from a series of picture and it literally translates from Latin to 'Wheel of Life' in English. Both have central themes to the movie. The shop referred to is in fact Cafe Zoetrope, a restaurant at the historical Sentinel Building owned by Francis Ford Coppola. Similarly, his production company is called "American Zoetrope."
