The Alvin Theatre that Carol and Ellen pass on their way back to New York City is playing two recent Columbia features, Counterfeit (1936) with Chester Morris (I) and Margot Grahame and The Fatal Hour (1936) with Ralph Bellamy and Marguerite Churchill.
