It's not shown, but Ensign Frank O'Flaherty was executed along with his gunner, Bruno Gaido, by being thrown overboard with weights attached to their bodies. At least one other American aviator, Ensign Wesley Osmus, was shot down and captured by the Japanese. Like O'Flaherty and Gaido, Osmus was thrown overboard with weights attached and died in the same way.
