C.D. Parker was Trivette's mentor, when he was a rookie officer, in real-life, Clarence Gilyard Jr.'s acting mentor was the late Andy Griffith. Long before his regular role on the show, he co-starred with Griffith on the popular 1980s legal drama, Matlock (1986), whilst Noble Willingham had guest-starred with Griffith on the same series, where he played a minister, who was framed for killing the madam. Neither Gilyard nor Willingham had shared a line in the same episode.
