Stephen Bogaert portrayed United States Air Force General Hastings who was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. To prepare for the part, Bogaert studied the life of United States Air Force General Richard B. Myers who was the 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and played major role during the first stage of War on Terrorism also known as Operation Enduring Freedom. Bogaert also read Gen. Richard B. Myers autobiography "Eyes on The Horizon: Serving on The Front Lines of National Security" in order to studied how the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff role during the major crisis such as the one that depict in the movie and how the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff handle the major crisis especially the one like the 9/11 attacks.
