Disney was rumored to be set to close the doors of the animation studios if this film was not a success, thankfully it was and because of it the next 4 films were all also Oscar winning films with La bella e la bestia (1991) even getting a best picture nomination. This is similar to the situation the studio was in prior to the release of another fairy tale themed musical, Cenerentola (1950).
