Two of the main actresses in this film, Julie Harris and Eileen Heckart, portrayed historical first ladies in Backstairs at the White House (1979). Harris played Nellie Taft and Heckart played Eleanor Roosevelt. Both actresses received multiple Tony award nominations, with Harris having won five Tonys for her performances and Eckhart having been honored with a special Tony. Both are also Academy Award nominees, with Heckert having won for Butterflies are Free (1972).
