Nick's relationship with his friend Chris is a direct riff on Un lupo mannaro americano a Londra (1981). In that film, David and Jack confront a werewolf; Jack is killed and David is bitten. David is then haunted by Jack's rotting ghost who tells him he is cursed and advises him what to do. They also have comic banter. In The Mummy, Nick is cursed by the Mummy, Chris dies, and his rotting ghost tells him he's cursed, advise him, and has comic banter.
