In one scene, General Burdun presents to candidate Tsaplin a dummy antisubmarine mine, saying dolphins trained by the Soviet navy blew up a German cruiser called Günter Netzer "with a mine just like this one, but smaller, but different" during World War II. In fact, no Nazi cruiser could have that name because Günter Netzer is a former soccer player from Germany, a world and European champion whose professional career started in 1963.
