Actors Teo Briones and Lexa Doig, who plays his character's mother, both have Filipino background. After Briones was cast as Junior and Devon Sawa was already set to play his and Jake's fathers, Mancini deliberately chose Doig for Junior's mother to relate their background to the roles.
