In 1999, the film's US television rights were acquired by Paramount Pictures, after parent company Viacom acquired full ownership of Spelling Entertainment Group, whose Worldvision Enterprises division had held the syndication rights to the Carolco Pictures library since 1992. Paramount would later produce two "Terminator" movies of their own, "Terminator: Genisys" in 2015 and "Terminator: Dark Fate", which marked the return of James Cameron to the franchise for the first time since "Judgement Day", in 2019. Both films were co-produced with Skydance Media, which has a first-look deal with Paramount, and "Dark Fate" was additionally co-produced by 20th Century Fox, which distributed the film in most international territories.
