Originally, it was hoped that this movie would re-unite the principal players from Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991). It turned out that only Sir Anthony Hopkins and Frankie Faison returned for this movie. However, it turned out to be a reunion for Hopkins anyway, as he had previously worked with Julianne Moore in Surviving Picasso (1996), and Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula di Bram Stoker (1992).
