Contrary to popular belief, this film did not utilize any sets or props from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), released 18 months before. Kubrick had most of the sets and props from that film destroyed although it is probable that one or two of the effects personnel on that film may have worked on this
