A bidding war for the movie involved a number of major Hollywood movie studios which included Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures the latter later winning out. It was formally announced on 9th February 2018 that Universal in association with Legendary Pictures in collaboration had been the winners of the bidding war.
