The torture scene, where Blofeld talks about one's head as the place where a man really lives, and where Blofeld's machine penetrates Bond's eardrums with needles, is lifted straight from the 1968 Bond novel "Colonel Sun", by Kingsley Amis. In that book, as in this movie, Bond is ultimately rescued by a female.
