Many viewers speculated that Robert died from his wounds on the yacht at the end of the film. However, when Diana and the yacht's crew finally showed up to tend to him, he's shown to be moving. Also, he was crying in a semi-fetal position mainly because he knew that Melinda died by drowning after the anchor dragged her underwater.
