Film critics Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert awarded the film 3 stars initially and their ratings stayed the same until years later when they felt the movie had improved upon them. In the last few editions of Maltin's annual movies and video guide he changed the rating from 3 stars to 3 and a half stars saying the film continued improving on each viewing while Ebert bumped it up from 3 to 4 stars and included it in his Great Movies series.
