Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Jack Black, and Drew Carey were among the few actors considered for the role of Mike. Ironically, Murphy was in another 2001 animated monster-themed film, being Shrek (2001), which won Best Animated Feature, the award that this movie was nominated for.
