The ending to the novel differs greatly from what is is seen in the film. In the novel, after Asami cuts off one of Aoyama's feet, the power goes out. As she heads to the kitchen to turn the power back on, Aoyama takes the opportunity to limp to the top of the stairs. Asami laughs and says ''Ok, I'll cut your feet off upstairs then''. As she reaches the top, Aoyama kicks her with his stub and she breaks her arm in the fall. Aoyama's son comes in shortly after. Despite her injury, Asami chases him around the house maniacally, shouting ''Liar Liar Liar'', in reference to Aoyama. He never mentioned to her that he had a son until after they had sex. Aoyama's son is then forced to kill her brutally by hacking her to pieces with an axe, to save his father's life. The novel concludes with him calling an ambulance and asking Aoyama what had happened, with Aoyama simply replying: ''Nothing really''. In the film, Asami's torture is merely interrupted by Aoyama's son when he walks in on her sawing off his father's feet, and kills her when she chases him up the stairs with pepper spray and he kicks her down the steps, breaking her neck.
