The Marvel Cinematic Universe actually owes its existence to Daredevil (2003). While playing Foggy Nelson in that film, Jon Favreau spoke to Marvel about directing what would eventually become Iron Man (2008), the breakout entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
