Lugosi continually puts down Boris Karloff and the Frankenstein (1931) monster, then later laments that he turned down the role of the monster himself. In reality, Bela Lugosi played the monster years after Karloff, in Frankenstein contro l'uomo lupo (1943). He also played Ygor in Il figlio di Frankenstein (1939), earning great critical acclaim against Karloff's final stiff portrayal as the monster, which went completely ignored by the era critics in favor of Lugosi. He reprised the role of Ygor in Il terrore di Frankenstein (1942) opposite Lon Chaney Jr.'s Monster.
