At the end of filming, the Executive Officer of the USS St. Paul (CA-73), Cmdr. Charles R. Little, received orders for his promotion from Commander to Captain. John Wayne pinned the captain's eagles he wore in the movie on the Executive Officer to promote him to captain in the Navy.
