When Batgirl introduces herself, Batman questions whether she should be called Batwoman instead. Batwoman was the code-name of a DC Comics superheroine. Batwoman/Kathy Kane debuted in Detective Comics #233 (July 1956), created by writer Edmond Hamilton and artist Sheldon Moldoff. She was depicted as a female counterpart of Batman and as a love interest for him. She was written out of the series in 1964, and killed off in a 1979 story-line. A new version, Batwoman/Kate Kane was introduced in 2006, but had an entirely different origin story and was not interested in Batman.
