Burt Reynolds turned down the role of astronaut Garrett Breedlove in Voglia di tenerezza (1983), a movie script that he reportedly loved. He could not do the film due to his commitment to this movie. The character of Garrett Breedlove was actually written specifically with Reynolds in mind by writer-director James L. Brooks.
