The death of Peter Keyes as shown in the theatrical cut underwent many edits before the film could pass the MPAA ratings board with an "R". The scene was originally much more graphic, and despite the attempts to edit the sequence, the film kept receiving an NC-17 rating. Finally, the scene was cut in such a way as to only imply what actually happened to Keyes, leading to the rather confusing moment of his legs dropping to the floor while his upper body mysteriously vanishes. The original sequence had Keyes pinned against the nearby column, his legs falling to the ground while his torso remains stuck to the structure, his internal organs spilling to the floor. The Predator then recalls the disc, and Keyes' torso then falls to the ground as well. This sequence was paid homage in Alien vs. Predator: Requiem via the accidental death of Jesse, who in the uncut version of the film, suffers the exact same fate as Keyes as it was originally filmed.
