The DC-7 airliner, registered N5903, seen at the end of the film was built in 1956 and originally served with Braniff Airlines. After it appeared in the movie, it was converted to a firefighting air tanker for T & G Aviation. On October 9, 1986 it took off from Dakar, Senegal on a cargo run for the United States Agency for International Development. Its number-3 engine began smoking and the number-4 fire alarm went off, forcing the pilot to attempt to ditch at sea. All four aboard were killed in the accident.
