The storyline has many parallels to the original Dracula story. The vampire comes to Earth in a ship whose crew it has wiped out just as Dracula comes to Britain in a sailing ship upon whose crew he has fed. It takes refuge in a religious temple, creates a special link with a victim with whom it has shared its essence, who is later hypnotized to provide clues to its location. The team hunting it include a foreign sounding doctor obsessed with death, and an American who track it to a mental asylum while it spreads its plague through London. The vampire is eventually killed by the American using a knife, who also dies in the process.
