For the reshot ending that famously featured a body double for the now deceased Heather O'Rourke, Tangina brings Kane into the light, freeing the captured Carol Anne, Donna and the rest of the family from the other side. Noticeably absent from the reshot ending was supporting character Scott. He was among those rescued in the original ending (included as a special feature on the Shout Factory Blu-ray). According to director Gary Sherman, Kip Wentz was unavailable to shoot because he was studying outside L.A., where the reshoots happened. In interviews, Wentz has since disputed this, stating he was in the city and available but he was just never contacted about returning for reshoots. Sherman reiterated his belief Wentz was unavailable during a 2021 interview with podcast Post Mortem with Mick Garris, but also recalls when he was told the actor was unavailable and that when offered the choice to reschedule and wait for him, Sherman said "Fuck it, lets just get this over with, nobody will miss him." The crew were still mourning from O'Rourke's loss according to Sherman, so resolving Scott's fate was not considered a priority, as they wished to just get the reshoots over with and finally finish the film. As a result of being absent in the reshot ending, Scott's fate is ultimately left unknown, having only been saved in the original ending.
