To prepare for their roles, Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace were asked to read Violet Ramis-Stiel's autobiography "Ghostbuster's Daughter: Life with My Dad, Harold Ramis" as much of their characterizations were inspired from the book. Jason Reitman credited Ramis-Stiel as one of the key persons who gave the blessing to get the sequel off the ground.
