Glenn Ford fell deeply in love with Geraldine Brooks during the shooting of the film. He was aware of the danger the relationship could have on his career, because of the gossips. To escape from this terrible issue, and also because he was married, he decided one night to enlist in the Foreign Legion. But his co-star Cedric Hardwick found him in the Legion headquarters and convinced him to proceed in the shooting of the film.
