The character of Bane (used in this film) first appeared in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 (January 1993), created by the writers Chuck Dixon and Doug Moench, and designed by the artist Graham Nolan. His skills include brute strength, exceptional intelligence, and a vast and diverse education. He is typically credited as the only villain to have defeated Batman both physically and mentally.
