When McClane and Takagi first meet, Takagi tells John McClane, "Pearl Harbor didn't work out, so we got you with tape decks." James Shigeta who played Takagi also played Vice Admiral Chiuichi Nagumo, one of the architects of the attack on Pearl Harbor in the film The Battle of La battaglia di Midway (1976).
