The film has many similarities to the 1987 thriller Fatal Attraction. Both John and Dan cheat on their wives. Both villains kill an animal and try to tear a family apart. Unlike Fatal Attraction, it is not John's ex-girlfriend who believes that the two are in love but his adoptive daughter.
