When Rick refuses to allow a German civilian into the gambling room, the German shouts that he will report it to the Angriff. Der Angriff (The Attack) was a Nazi newspaper that was used primarily for propaganda and to attack Nazi opponents, particularly Jews. Set up by Joseph Goebbels, it was first published in July 1927 as a weekly but eventually became a daily, putting out two editions each day beginning in October 1932. It was published almost continuously until its last edition in April 1945. In addition to the reference in this film, the paper shows up in Gli eroi di Hogan: War Takes a Holiday (1968), where Hogan uses a faked copy of Der Angriff to make the Germans believe that the war was over.
