The letter that Amanda finds in the drawer which upsets her is revealed in Saw IV - Il gioco continua (2007) to have been put there by Mark Hoffman, another one of Jigsaw's accomplices. It is revealed in Saw VI (2009) that the letter was actually a blackmailing letter, forcing Amanda to kill Lynn Denlon; because of this, Amanda's failure to win her game wasn't entirely her own choice - she believed that, if Lynn survived, her involvement in Gideon's death would be revealed to John.
