At the military meeting during the power outage, one officer reports that all communications are out, and he specifically mentions telephones, radio, and cable. By "cable" he was referring to telegraph, not cable TV. Telegrams were often referred to as cables because they were transmitted by wire. At the time of this film, cable TV existed in only a few remote communities in mountainous areas, where the terrain prevented reception of over-the-air signals in low-lying areas. It consisted of an antenna on top of a hill that captured over-the-air television signals and distributed them to residents of the community below.
