When Mr. Chagall is talking to Madeline after he sends his assistant, Anna, away, his eyes keep moving strangely. One of his eyes keeps blinking really fast while the other eye keeps wandering in an unnatural manner to where he has to turn it correctly. He keeps putting his hand over the eye that's wandering to hide his problem from Madeline. It's theorized that since he's Lisle Von Rhuman's assistant and recruiter and most likely took the potion, either Mr. Chagall was involved in some sort of accident involving his face to which the potion couldn't fix the ocular injury or he's possibly an undead member of Lisle's secret society. Though, when he's doing a speech during Lisle's party toward the end of the film, his eyes seem normal. His eyes were most likely corrected by this point. Theoretically, if the latter explanation of Mr. Chagall being an undead person that's part of Lisle's society is the case, this possibly foreshadowed that Madeline and Helen would suffer the same fate due to being careless after taking the potion.
