Nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, losing to Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991). It was, however, the first full length animated feature to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), and the first Best Picture Oscar nominated for Walt Disney Pictures since Mary Poppins (1964), as well as third nominated for the Walt Disney Company after Mary Poppins (1964) and L'attimo fuggente (1989).
