In the book, the Grand High Witch in disguise is described as petite (no more than approximately four and a half feet tall) and young (about 25 or 26). She dresses in stylish floor length black dress with long black opera gloves and wears a full face mask with a long black wig covering her bald head. In contrast, Hathaway stands at five foot eight, and is seen wearing a rather sexy long purple dress with a figure-hugging metallic gold serpent design around it. She also wears a layered chin length platinum blonde wig instead of a long black wig. Most noticeably, she does not wear a physical mask, although it is implied that she use magic to conceal her real and disfigured face.
