Cherno Alpha is likely named for Chernobyl, the small town in the Ukraine where a reactor at the nuclear power facility experienced a meltdown in April 1986, when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. Cherno's head resembles a tall cooling tower, though the reactors at Chernobyl do not have that style of cooling tower.
