This is the second time that C-3PO's memory is wiped. The first time was in Star Wars: Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith (2005), to prevent him from accidentally revealing the survival of babies Luke and Leia. Depending on how often R2-D2 has done back-ups of 3PO's memory over the years, when he restores it later in the movie, 3PO may very well have his original memory from the Prequel Trilogy back. Though that later part is never confirmed and is pure speculation.
