Many fans have postulated that the character Billy Cranston, in both the series and the film, is named after Bryan Cranston, who had done voice work for Saban Entertainment and plays Zordon in this film. In actuality, the character name appeared in Haim Saban's original (unsuccessful) pitch for an American adaptation of Chôdenshi Baioman (1984).
