The film opened at the Broadway Theater in New York City. Tickets were charged at a higher rate because it was such a prestige production (and to cover some of the costs of converting the theater to stereophonic sound). Ticket demand was so high that extra telephone operators were hired to cope with the number of calls. The film ran for a record-breaking 57 weeks.
