This was the first Matrix film to be shot digitally, unlike the first three films which were shot in Super 35 format. Interestingly, the first Matrix film, while technically very advanced, was so backward in its rental distribution that it was only available on VHS tape and it took more than a month longer to duplicate and get into video stores than all other hit movies of the time.
